Pelvic floor PT eastern massachusetts

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy FAQs

How do I schedule an appointment?

Please call our office at (508) 556-1397 to schedule, or click here. Booking sooner rather than later is always recommended. Because we typically have a wait, we will offer to schedule out your follow-ups at the same time so that your plan of care is ready to go when we see you. For birth prep visits, we recommend scheduling between 32-35 weeks.

Do you work with people who have never been pregnant?

Absolutely. Our therapists are pelvic floor and orthopedic specialists passionate about working with anyone interested in improving their pelvic health. We work with anyone experiencing pelvic floor symptoms and anyone interested in optimizing their pelvic health.

When I can start PT prenatally?

This is a great question. There are so many benefits to seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist during pregnancy rather than waiting until postpartum. It can reduce the likelihood and severity of certain common postpartum symptoms like perineal tearing, urinary incontinence and diastasic recti.

If you are having pain, bladder, bowel or sexual symptoms you can begin PT at any point during pregnancy. If you are feeling well and interested in learning what you can do to support your changing body throughout pregnancy, we typically recommend you come in during the second trimester when you start to feel like your body is changing so we can discuss exercise modifications and training for pregnancy, birth and postpartum recovery.

What will my first visit be like?

We will do a review of your medical history, have a conversation about your goals for treatment, answer any questions you have, and develop a treatment plan that will address your specific symptoms and goals. The first visit will possibly include a physical exam to assess your strength, motion, posture and function. You will want to wear comfortable clothes.

Your first visit will include instruction in home exercises and education so you can take steps towards feeling better right after you leave! Your home exercise program lives in an easy-to-use, web-based program that you can always access via email or text.

How long is each visit?

Your initial consult as well as all follow-up sessions are a full 60 minutes. You will be one-on-one with a doctor of physical therapy specialized in perinatal and pelvic health for the full duration of your visit. Please fill out forms online ahead of your initial consult to save time during your visit.

Do I need a prescription or referral from my doctor?

No, you do not.  Massachusetts is an unrestricted Direct Access state for physical therapy, which means patients are allowed to seek evaluation and treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a prescription or referral from a physician.  However, if you plan on seeking reimbursement from insurance, your insurance provider may require a physician’s referral.

Do you take insurance?

MomLife Health and Wellness is an out-of-network provider for private insurance companies.  Being out-of-network allows for a higher standard of care unrestricted by insurance requirements, including the duration of visits and length of your plan of care. Clients are offered a detailed receipt that allows them to apply their payment to flexible spending accounts or toward their out-of-network deductibles.

Why is MomLife Health and Wellness out-of-network?

The traditional insurance model prevents us from giving you the best possible treatment. The out-of-network provider structure allows us to provide you with patient focused, quality based, and highly personalized care.

You will have your therapist’s undivided attention, never have treatment by aides or assistants and you will never have any surprise bills for services.

Your therapist will be accessible to you in between your sessions for communication and will provide you with education and resources to manage your condition with confidence in between your visits. This model ultimately results in fewer visits, faster outcomes, and decreased overall cost of co-pays and unnecessary visits.
